Description
Introduced at Baselworld 2017, the Zenith Defy El Primero 21 marked the return of the Defy name and a revolution in mechanical chronographs, building on the legendary El Primero of 1969, the world’s first high-frequency automatic chronograph movement. At its heart lies the self-winding Calibre El Primero 9004, featuring two separate escapements: one beating at 5 Hz for the timekeeping, and a second at an astonishing 50 Hz dedicated to the chronograph, allowing it to measure time to 1/100th of a second. The central chronograph hand completes a full rotation every second, a mesmerizing display of precision. The Reference 95.9005.9004/01.R782 pairs a 44mm brushed titanium case with a contrasting black ceramic bezel. Its silver sunray dial features black counters for the running seconds, the 30-minute and 60-second chronograph registers, faceted luminescent hour markers and a chronograph power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock, accented in red. The movement can be admired through the sapphire caseback. Certified as a chronometer and water resistant to 100 meters, the Defy El Primero 21 is a bold expression of Zenith’s motto, proof that the future of Swiss watchmaking is built on its past.
