Description
First introduced in 1963, the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona was built for professional racing drivers and takes its name from the legendary Daytona International Speedway in Florida. The Reference 116520 marked a turning point in its history, as the first Daytona powered by Rolex’s in-house Calibre 4130, a self-winding chronograph movement with a 72-hour power reserve. Its 40mm stainless steel case is framed by a polished steel bezel engraved with a tachymetric scale for measuring average speeds, while the crisp white dial features three contrasting sub-dials and the signature red “Daytona” script. This example features the highly sought-after “APH” dial, recognisable by the subtle gap between “COSMOGR” and “APH” in the word Cosmograph. The variant appeared only in a short production window late in the 116520’s run, making it a favourite among collectors. Mounted on the Oyster bracelet, the Daytona remains one of the most desirable chronographs in the world.
