Description
In 1904, Louis Cartier designed the Santos for his friend, the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, who needed to read the time without letting go of the controls. It became one of the first modern men’s wristwatches. The reference WSSA0018 belongs to the collection relaunched in 2018. Its large steel case keeps the signature square shape and screwed bezel, and the crown is set with a blue synthetic spinel cabochon. The silvered opaline dial features bold Roman numerals, a railway minute track, blued steel sword-shaped hands and a date window at 4:30. Inside, the in-house calibre 1847 MC automatic movement provides approximately 40 hours of power reserve, and the watch is water resistant to 100 metres. It is presented on a steel bracelet with Cartier’s QuickSwitch interchange system and SmartLink tool-free sizing.
